The initiative "WiFi4EU, Promoting Internet Connectivity in Local Communities" is a support mechanism to provide free access to Wi-Fi networks in public indoor or outdoor spaces (such as government buildings, educational centres, libraries, health centres, museums, public squares, and parks). This will more closely connect communities to the Digital Single Market, give users access to the Gigabit society, enhance digital literacy, and complement the public services offered in these spaces. The WiFi4EU vouchers can also be used to finance the installation of a completely new public Wi-Fi network, or to modernise an existing public Wi-Fi network or expand its coverage. The installed network will not duplicate existing public or private free offerings that have similar characteristics, including in terms of quality.
