According to the National Statistical Institute (NSI), La Rinconada’s population will exceed 39,500 inhabitants in 2022. With these numbers, it can be concluded that La Rinconada was founded as a population-receiving municipality and has been experiencing constant population growth since 1993. For nearly a decade, the municipality has been accommodating the large number of people that Seville releases, which the overcrowded Aljarafe region can no longer handle.

The proximity to Seville, as well as the desire for a higher quality of life with less stress and better educational, sports, cultural, and social facilities, appear to be the main reasons that La Rinconada has become one of the towns on the way to becoming a city.

In light of this growth, the town’s cabinet has been proactive in establishing all the necessary infrastructure to properly serve the growing population.The main goals have been to increase employment, provide additional housing, and expand social and welfare services

In this way, the cabinet, aware of La Rinconada’s transition from town to city, developed a General Urban Development Plan (Spanish acronym: PGOU) that already predicted a population rise over the next 12 years.

The young population and the presence of diverse cultures

According to the National Statistical Institute, La Rinconada’s population is very young, with those aged 25–55 accounting for 45% of the total number. In La Rinconada, individuals aged 0–24 account for over 29% of the population. 

Within the population profile of La Rinconada, one cannot ignore the benefits of living alongside people of different nationalities. According to the data from 2022, around 1,950 people born outside our country reside in the municipality.

50,000 inhabitants in the next 12 years

Since 1993, the number of registered residents has been increasing at a rate of over a thousand inhabitants per year, bringing the total to 39,509. According to the forecasts in the revised General Urban Development Plan, this figure might reach 50,000 during the next 12 years.

Current population analysis

According to the latest data from the municipal register, the number of rinconeros rises to 39,509 inhabitants. According to 2022 NSI figures and by sex variable, there are 19,600 men and 19,909 women. Regarding the demographic structure, it can be observed that the population of La Rinconada is mostly young, with a significant increase between the ages of 20 and 45. This phenomenon is primarily attributed to natural population growth and internal migration of young couples from Seville who choose to live in La Rinconada.
