La Rinconada, located to the north of Seville town, is a large municipal area spanning 138.39 square kilometres. It borders the municipalities of Alcalá del Río and Brenes to the north, La Algaba to the west, and Carmona to the east.
La Rinconada has the shape of a nearly equilateral triangle, “making it possible to reach Brenes’ gates, follow the river’s flow almost to La Algaba and Santiponce, and go down the ancient Royal Road, which is now a motorway that connects Seville to Madrid”. (sic, Aspectos históricos de la villa de La Rinconada y de su barrio San José; Manuel Alfonso Rincón).
The municipal area is divided into several population districts that correspond to rural areas. Moreover, we should include the long-standing old town of La Rinconada and the area of San José de La Rinconada.
These rural areas include: El Gordillo, La Jarilla, Tarazona, Tarazonilla, Los Abetos, El Castellón, Los Labrados, Casavacas, and El Toril.
La Rinconada’s location in the lower part of the Guadalquivir River plain has a direct effect on its general climatic features, including temperatures, precipitations, frost, winds, etc.
In addition, its location on the left bank of the Guadalquivir River has specific effects on certain climatic phenomena, such as humidity, fog, etc. In general, La Rinconada has a warm-temperate, semi-arid, subtropical Mediterranean climate with moderately mild winters.
