The ERDF funds are making a major contribution to the urban development of the municipality of La Rinconada (Seville). One of the most significant lines within this strategy is the contribution to the rehabilitation of cultural heritage.
Among the different actions that are being developed, it is worth highlighting the one called: “Antonio Gala’’ Cultural Centre: Rehabilitation and Enhacement.
This operation consists of the integral rehabilitation of the Cultural Centre, which was out of service because it did not meet the requirements demanded by the cultural authorities, with the aim of complying with cultural regulations, dignifying and renovating the obsolete facilities, modifying the structure and design of the theatre, and expanding the capacities, production, quality, and possibilities of enjoyment of this centre. In this way, the cultural and creative activity in the centre of La Rinconada will be boosted.
The Antonio Gala Theatre was opened on February 10th, 1995. It was in a state of deterioration, with problems of accessibility for disabled people, safety problems in access due to the narrowness of the urban road, sanitary problems, unsustainable enclosures, leaks in the roofs, etc. Due to these circumstances, it was necessary for the Town Hall to intervene effectively to improve the conditions offered to both artistic and creative entities and the public in order to be able to hold cultural and artistic activities. By creating this new scenic space with a modern and functional design, the municipality aims to complete its "great cultural ring," facilitating the connection between creators and the public to whom they are addressed, to develop, promote, or host activities in different areas of culture in any of its manifestations.
The total investment in this action has been €800.351,55, of which €384.000,00 corresponds to the ERDF co-financing. The impact of the action is reflected, on the one hand, in the adaptation of the “Antonio Gala” Cultural Centre and its adaptation to the current demand for use and the need to renovate these obsolete facilities, and on the other hand, in the use and enjoyment by the citizens of La Rinconada of this theatre, as they had previously been deprived of access to nearby cultural services.
